AFI sweater honours my grandfather, Afi Arthúr, who moved to Iceland from Norway in 1925. Afi is the Icelandic word for grandpa. In the 1950s, my great-grandmother Emma lovingly knitted a beautiful dark blue "kofta" with a classic Norwegian pattern for her son—my grandfather.
As a teenager, I was captivated by its intricate design and decided to recreate it with a modern twist, guided by my grandmother's experienced hands. I altered the shape to reflect the oversized style popular in the seventies while preserving its essence.
Now, forty years later, the original "kofta" serves as the inspiration for this new sweater. The AFI sweater combines a traditional Icelandic yoke pattern with the elegance and refinement of Norwegian knitwear, celebrating the fusion of two cultures and the bond between generations. Each stitch tells a story—one that's rooted in family, craftsmanship, and timeless design.
